I recently sat down and spoke in depth with Ambre Lake, a beautiful and talented actor, based in Chicago, about the reality of Reality TV. Ambre was a participant on VH-1’s “Rock of Love.”
I was very curious to hear what she had to say about the experience.
Q: How did you get on “Rock of Love?”
A: I answered an audition notice on Craig’s List and auditioned on camera (in Chicago).
Q: What is the ultimate goal of the show?
A: To find love with the star of the show….Bret Michaels.
Q: What made you decide to do Reality TV?
A: Lots of different reasons…listen, I was the one who always said I would never do reality TV. But, one reason I wanted to do the show is because I was a HUGE fan of the show during the first season. During the first season, it showed Bret to be a really cool and down to earth guy, so why not? Plus, I’m an actress and have been working in the business for a while and well, you can get a lot of exposure from reality TV.
Q: Did anyone try to talk you out of doing the show?
A: Oh yes, a LOT of people tried to talk me out of it for many reasons. Reasons ranging from it’s not “reputable” work to things like reality TV could hurt my career. Ultimately, I had to listen to my gut and I had a really great agent who discussed the pros and cons and we decided together to proceed with the show.
Q: How brutal was the competition?
A: Oh my God. Seriously. The competition started from the minute I walked into the house. And I cannot even begin to describe some of the actual physical competitions we had to undergo. But, it really pushed me and allowed me to find out how strong I was physically and emotionally.
Q: Are you staying in touch with any of other participants?
A: Yes, I am staying in touch with pretty much every person that was in the house. What we went through in that house will bond us together for the rest of our lives.
Q: How many hours in the day were the cameras on you?
A: 24 hours a day! When the actual cameras weren’t on you, you were still on the surveillance cams mounted throughout the house. The only time you had any time alone was in the bathroom.
Q: How were the living arrangements?
A: It was great! We lived in this beautiful mansion with many bedrooms which girls would share, ranging anywhere from 3 to 6 girls in each room. We lived in the house like it was our own. We had to clean and wash dishes….nobody cleaned the house for us.
Q: Knowing now all that was involved, would you do have gone through with it?
A: Absolutely!!!
Q: Are there any times that you were so discouraged that you questioned your
decision to participate?
A: Yes, of course. I hardly ever slept, there was a lot of drama so when things would get crazy I would sit there and think “what the hell am I doing?”.
Q: What is your overall opinion of your experience?
A: It’s hard to put into words but I will try my best. I went into this with an open mind and an open heart. I didn’t expect to get so much out of this experience. I was tested emotionally, physically and spiritually. Coming out of it, oddly enough, I found out who I really was. You are challenged with so much that you figure out really quickly what you can and can’t handle and how you react when under pressure. It was interesting and proved to be a cool experience overall.
Q: Would you recommend it to others?
A: I would recommend it only if you’re at a good place in your life to do something like this. I wouldn’t recommend it solely for fame or recognition. Believe in the show’s premise and be confident in yourself (inside and out) and then I would recommend it. This is the one thing I want to say, you get out of it only what you put in. You put positive energy into yourself and the show then you will receive positive results!
Ambre Lake is a real knock out with TONS of personality. The reason she does not fit Rock of Love 2 is because she carries herself like a woman with lots of education and refinement, she is very attractive in a wholesome way (not sleazy), and seems very mature.
The chances of a woman like Ambre actually throwing herself at a washed up rock star and watching him sleep with or grope a bunch of other girls in the process is not a very realistic proposition.
Hopefully, Ms. Lake will get what she probably wanted from the experience…..a nationally recognized face and a chance to get cast on network programs. I think she would make a great soap opera regular.
I never knew of her before the rock of love. I never watched show and I was channel flipping and landed on the show” i don’t watch much tv” I saw her and was stunned by her. Wow she is …..stunning I was thinking she is not right for him. I started a web search to find out who she is and i landed here after going to her web page. i am thinking ” actuallly I am wishing ” I would happen to run into her some time in my life. heck it could be 20 more years and i would still think she is wow. Just something about her.

She is wonderful. She may be what Bret needs to settle him down. They may a great couple when it’s just the two of them. Bret, wake up. This is the best women, and by far the smartest one you will meet. Don’t let her go.
i was a high school friend of ambre here in alabama, we used to ride around in my car when we were i guess 17 years old and go shoot pool . i always wondered where she went i went off to the univ of alabama and i never saw her again. but i can tell you this about her. she is one of the nicest and the most classiest girls you will ever meet. i had a crush on her but never told her. she always had the most beautiful hair and smile you would ever see on anyone and she still looks the same, i can’t even tell she has aged at all

I think Ambre is the best option for Bret. She is not like most of the other girls. She’s classy, nice, and does not expose herself on camera(or in real life). She is a sweet girl and Bret better not let her go!!

Let me tell you what, between watching Rock of Love and Flavor of Love and seeing the ignorant, undignified way that the younger girls (my peers, unfortunately) behave is indicative of the larger catastrophe that is the “me” generation (aptly named, I’ve always though). Way to go Ambre, by acting like a mature woman you may be one of the only sane female influences on television right now. And to think that someone like you would show up on a show like this is a little odd, but any guy (Brett included) would be really lucky to snag you, an educated, honorable, dignified and fun woman. I think she handled herself beautifully on the show. She isn’t too old- she’ s only 37 and looks GREAT! Bret is in his 40’s- so if anyone shoud act their age- it’s Bret- not Ambre. I wish her continued success and I hope she finds love with a man who is worthy of her.
Sorry, but to be on a show “looking for love” but throwing in that reality tv would have her get recognized…makes her extremly fake to me. She needs to stop playing the whole I’m brutally honest card and acting better than everyone else…and the whole I’m not wearing any underwear. That is not something you announce and think it to be sexy. Yuck…
I really hate it when somebody gets into a show about finding love just for recognition and fame. And to think that Ambre would’ve gone home if it weren’t for that other girl who left. She’s too old anyways to get any roles in movies or other shows. People want new material.

I watched the final show. Bret picked Ambre. What a disappointment. She totally does not match Bret. She is closer to her age but she seems to look older. She dresses awful she walks horrible. And her hair it atrocious. I totally agree with Chris, she is way too old to act that way. Most of the time she looked like she was acting anyway, so she’s not even good at that.

From day 1…I have been a HUGE fan of Ambre’s. Every episode had me liking her even more! Last night, I couldn’t stop screaming and cheering after Bret picked her…I was even texting friends about it.
But today, after finding out that she is an actress, I am very disappointed in her AND the show. She was not in this scam alone…the show must’ve been a part of it as well. There is no way they did not know that she is an actress. With all of the background checks that they do, along with medical testing, somewhere in her background had to be acting. Especially when she majored in Theatre.
She said she is a “tv personality”…which made many believe that she is a show host or anchorwoman or something along those lines. Never once did it come up that she had multiple appearances on TV shows and even a small, uncredited role in Sweet Home Alabama. I’m very disappointed…I was fooled again by RoL. I was rooting for Jes all through season one…and now Ambre. :o(

Out of all the girls on the show, i always thought Ambre was the best one for him, i was hard to pick her out from the lineup of all the girls on the first few episodes considering the first thing that came to my mind was, God Brett, do you want love, or skanky lust. I was very pleased that Ambre won. She’s a decent age, has a good head on her shoulders and was honest and forthright. Her being 37 instead of 31 made her even better for him, and considering all the skeletons in closets, that was nothing.
I think she will bring a good center to their relationship and a grounding that a lot of celebrities have touble finding when they date the same stereotypes over and over. Who cares if she’s an actress? Good for her for being her own person and having her own life. her life will not completely revolve around his and she will have her own opinions to share. The underwear thing reached down into that place that all men love; a little bit of naughty in their nice. I thought it was a bold move, and well-timed.

Are these shows for real? Since when does a rock star need to put out a dating show? And what’s with women sitting idle while the man they “love” is out looking at other women’s crotches? I watched the last 2 shows, couldn’t take my eyes off the TV, and wished I had caught all the episodes. I admit it was entertaining. Do you really have to date 40-50 women at one time? First of all anyone that goes on a show to find love will never last. It’s trashy and desperate. Amber was not classy…she was a hoe, a hater, and plain trash. You know, I know, and she knows she was there for show…If she’s 37 and has’nt found anybody, there’s something wrong with her. She opens her legs at the dinner table…”God has a place for her”. The double standard on a lot of these comments is really telling. Bret is of course doing the show for exposure. Why slam Ambre for having–at least in part–the same motives? (I can’t imagine why you’d want to subject yourself to a reality show if you weren’t getting something out of it.)
And secondly, Bret is perverse on the show in the best possible way. No reason why Ambre shouldn’t shoot back with some sassy no panties action.
Did any of the girls get pregnant from him during the show? I’ve heard rumors about both Ambre and Daisy being pregnant with due dates in the fall. What a show THAT would make, huh? And for the record, he ought to have paired up with Angelique! Hahahaha (remember her? Gosh and ya’ll thought Daisy was nasty!)
Ambre is age-appropriate for him but somehow even next to him she looks older than him!! She is like the chick who wants to be hot and sexy but somehow doesn’t quite get it. Her hair, my goodness who is her hairdresser, not because of the lowlights that is in style right now but the way it’s done on her hair and her haircut is horrible. So what if Daisy has fake boobs, extensions and lip injections so do a lot of people, and it all makes her look great! I think Ambre is great…I was expecting Bret to pick Daisy…but I’m glad he went the other way with Ambre..I hope it works out for them…by the way…to all the comments on Ambre’s hair..some people don’t know what style is…I love it ! I didn’t know however that Ambre was an actress (please girl tell me you were in it for Bret!). I do find it hard to beleive that you could find love in that manner but maybe it works for some people! I truely enjoyed the show…there are some crazy chics out there! Was anyone watching the same show I was? Ambre sucks. First of all she lied about her age and then tried to say its because she has to because she is a tv host….um is does katie couric or barbara walters have to lie about their age? And what tv show is she a host of? Ive never seen her on shit before. Then I just read a blog where she admits to doing the show for exposure since she is an “actress”.
She tries to be “mature” 37 year old yet she acts like the other 20 something-year-olds on this show, for example blowing up at daisy when they were in las vegas for no reason and then instigating her while they were in cancun.
She sucks shes not attractive at all, but whatever Im not fucking her, Hey Bret have fun fucking that old ass worn out pussy.

Ambre was the person with the most intelligence, class and sophistication. I feel sorry for Daisy, because I think she may have suffered from some really bad stuff in her life (I suspect abuse and neglect). I hate how the show makes the person who doesn’t win out to be a monster. Daisy needs pity, not scorn. At the end of the day, I think Heather from Season 1 is the right person for him. Ambre is a great girl, but she may get tired of the shallow world Bret lives in after a while. I am sure her feelings for him are genuine, but are is? I hate seeing people get hurt on the show. I really hope there’s not a Season 3.
I can’t believe there are people out there that actually wished for Daisy to win. She’ll go down as the stupidest blonde ever to grace one of these shows. When she opens her mouth she sounds like a Kindergartener, she’s easily confused by the simplest of questions, looks like a tramp, lies through he teeth and is at the pinnacle of her skanky-ho-ness. No WONDER Heather hated her so much, they were probably separated at birth!

really? exposure for her career or finding true love. if her interview was done before the final show aired, she couldn’t be all a glow over Bret - it was a secret… so playing the career angle makes some sense. besides - its reality tv… ergo its edited, people. there may have been a lot more going on between ambre and bret & daisy and bret and all the others than you know. have you not been keeping up with reality tv - i mean even since the firt real world, we “learned” that people and episodes are edited… and the final version may not really be who that peron is in total. So do we really know the ambre that bret knows or chose? I doubt it.
I am fine with her going on the show for her career but the fact that she screwed him on the show is kinda disturbing…is that what it takes for an aspiring actress to succeed? Not exactly a positive role model in my opinion….
After watching Flavor of Love, I Love New York, and Rock of Love (et al) - it’s become very evident that these shows have become/are a means of publicity for these celebrities from days of yore. They are not looking for love; they are looking for economic stimulus. If you really think they are looking for love, you must also be one of the many youngens that have commented on here about Ambre, at 37, being old. Let me tell you that when you are 37 you will become angry and belligerent with anyone who tells you that you are old. Bret is 44. So if Daisy thinks Ambre is 500 years old, how does she feel about her would-be boyfriend being 507? I would consider a 7-year age difference between my boyfriend and me to be rather significant. Anyway, Ambre’s body does look great - at any age - and I’d really like to see how good your fry and patty-loving asses would look under 24-hour camera surveillance. On the topic of being fake. It’s TV - my God people. I bet you watch Fox News and think that’s real too. There were times that I felt that Daisy during interviews was like the often-misunderstood Britney Spears, but at the end of the day I personally related to more Ambre because of her down-to-earth camera persona (sounds like in real-life too). Frankly, these people with freakish plastic surgery faces are hard for me to relate to. People with physical obsessions like Daisy’s often seek external sources of happiness (like eyelash and hair extensions, Rhinoplasty, Restalyn, Botox and silicone) because they can’t find it internally. In the end if you aren’t happy with yourself it’s going to be a bigger battle to get other people to like you. (right now I’m imagining the hot chick from I’m Gonna Get You Sucka – here, hold my leg). On a closing note: any notion of a ‘rock of love’ was dashed when Krusty Joe gave herself the heave ho. That girl was just the kind of disaster Bret could have enjoyed. For a while at least until the Rock of Love 2009 Tour is announced and “nearly” sells out the Grizzly Rose up on 58th and I25 - so he can rake in more dough while being squeezed between the shoeshine box and the mechanical bull. Hey, it’s OK, Bret, we all need to pay for our kids’ college somehow.

AMBRE - the only way you managed to get Bret, was because you snitched on everyone else, and now we all know the truth, this is all about you furthering your career. Heather said it to Bret, “yeah, but is she your type” and even HE had to think about that. Daisy said it, ‘your trying to hard” and the way you tried to look sooo surprised with the wide-eye bat your eyedrop your jaw look - OMG!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! First off, Daisy De La Hoya, check out the definition of “cougar”. If Ambre was hooking up with a 20-year-old she’d be a couger. Bret is OLDER than her.
Second, what’s with all the hatin’ on Ambre? Some say she can’t live his rocker lifestyle, while others say she’s no lady because she flashed him. Give me a break! She was herself and that’s who he fell for. It gives me more respect for him and belief that he was in this to really find someone, because I’m sure there are two dozen “Daisys” at every show he plays, but Ambre is a cut above.
And as for not being a lady because of the no underwear thing, she was being sexy! I pulled the same thing with my husband on an early date almost 10 years ago. We both looked at each other and smiled when we saw that part.

Daisy, quit pouting! You know you lost to a real women, that doesn’t need plastic surgery to build up her self esteem. I actually think you have probably done a lot more surgerys than just boobs. Way to go Ambre!!! My husband and I have been cheering you on from the get go. You have class and natural beauty, unlike the “Bimbo of the Month”, Daisy. She didn’t speak proper english and she does look like she belongs on a pole in a strip club. What an appropriate occupation for her. As for Vivian, I’m curious as to what your age is and what you look like. If you honestly think that Ambre’s very thick, in-style hair is horrible compared to Daisy’s very thin, very bad extensions, it has to make those of us with higher expections of what beauty is wonder what you look like. And since when is 37 old? I’ve seen 25 year olds that would be greatful to look half as good as Ambre. This lady is such a liar I checked out her Myspace page and she still has her age listed WRONG !!!! She has it as 33 she told Bret she was 31 and the truth comes out she’s 37 !! Go figure !!! I can’t believe any of you all are bashing Ambre for anything. She is the only one of these girls that has any class at all. As far as her telling Bret she was wearing no underwear goes…come on ladies be honest with yourselves! All of us have said things like that to a man we are in love with. I think Ambre looked fine. I’m in my late 20’s and hope to look as good as her when I’m 37. I think towards the end she was just manipulated by the chick from the first season. They were all pushed to their limits at this point and were about to snap on eachother. Have you lived with a house full of ladies….eh! So, yes, I think she did some pretty rude things, but based on the environment and situation …it’s forgivable.
I think underneath the fake boobs, etc…Daisy really was a sweet person and was there for him. I think the beating she took from the other girls was God awful….they were like a pack of wolves.
Lastly, I really hope Bret doesn’t screw this up with Ambre. I love him to death…but he’s getting up there in age. He still looks great too….love him!!! Needs to make sure he keeps it in his pants though.

Does anyone but me think that the whole “rock of love” was about promoting bret’s new album and upcoming tour? It seemed that all of the backround music was off of his not yet released album and those little promos in the corner of the tv screen were not exactly subtle. Who cares who won…I think it was all about promoting bret.
Ambre and I dated back in college in Alabama. She is the nicest woman anyone could ever meet. She still talk about twice a year and Im soo hapy for her. Man. what was I thinking when I broke up with her, LOL.
I was rooting for Ambre since day one because she really did seem genuine, but as soon as she went overboard with the “gasp…Yay!!” I was done.. no kidding! Even though that became very annoying… But when I saw her being conniving against Daisy at the dinner table in Vegas I was just turned off… Daisy wasn’t there to date Ambre and didn’t need her to be asking such personal questions… Daisy went through some real shit, regardless of her intentions there (bc apparently Ambre’s was the same “business and exposure”) The two-faced hypocritical Ambre was acting all like she was genuinely concerned for Daisy..pssht.. bad acting. Even poor Daisy was like “I can’t tell if you’re really being concerned…” (or something like that) and that kinda broke my heart. And also when she lied about her age… “omg… I can’t believe I lied to bret”… Please… you lied so intentionally since you were only 6 yrs off!! (it was more the bad acting) I was also turned off by her no underwear trick… even daisy the stripper didn’t do anything like that…. You have to admit though, she is a smart one, do it for the exposure (no pun intended). Bret also stated in a new article I read on CNN that he really didn’t think he was going to find love or anything and that Ambre is just a “nice and cool person”! I also have to add that I agree about HEATHER - she is a psychotic jealous bitch who really stirred up nothing but hell FOR bret and the girls - yeah great tv, but psycho skank who needs to stop throwing beer cans at people and get to anger management - do something with your life you groupie - you look older than Ambre (you’re welcome). So yeah, Ambre - I was rooting for you, but I was disgusted by your low ass moves since you have some sort of competitive edge and just have to win… I couldn’t believe my feelings actually changed for you… it was sad. Daisy, as much as people may hate on her, had a bigger and truer heart, even though she was a bit immature at times, please, give her a break, she shed more tears for Bret than any of the girls combined. Worked with Ambre on a project while she was in Atlanta. She was always cool and easy to work with…glad she won.
Bret was probably happy to meet a woman who wasn’t a typical Groupie-esque girl. I thought he’d go for Daisy but it shows that I underestimated his intentions.

I really like Cristy Joe for Bret as a partner, well Ambre is not that appropiate woman for him but oh, well. she looks more mature of course for her age she knows how to manipulate people, and she works as hostess on TV. Well all this helped her out in how to talk to Bret. Bret needs some that loves him for real.
People wake up! she is just as fake as the rest. she has had he lips injected, her boobs are fake, and botox. she is there to further her “career” and thats all. that being said, she was the most normal of the bunch, but she backstabbed every chance she got.
It is so funny to read all comments about being disappointed about finding out Ambre is an actress, and thinking Bread was trying to find TRUE love in a reality show. Haven’t you read what Brad said about the show? He did it just for his career, he said: “you can never expect to find love in a reality show”. So please don’t feel bad for him.
Were you entertained by the show? If the answer is yes, the show served the purpose.
Was Ambre participation all and act? will never know.. But it was a great representation of a mature, intelligent and sexy woman.

I was all for Ambre until I just found out that she went on the show after having conversations about the pros and cons of doing reality TV with her agent. And, she accused many of the other girls of being there not for Bret but for TV exposure. That’s exactly what she was there for so she should not throw stones. I think Bret should either be with Heather from the first show or Daisy. Daisy wasn’t fake, she had some things accentuated and fixed or whatever but so does everyone who wear any make-up. She was so in love with him and I thought it was so sad at the end and I think she would have had his back more than Ambre will. I think Ambre is out to get jobs and maybe she is in like with Bret but I don’t think it will last at all. I would bet there is a Rock of Love 3. Actually Ambre is turning out to be the most fake one of all after she screamed at Destiny about not being able to say she was in love with Bret and she criticized almost everyone else saying they were there for TV exposure when that all she was there for. When she said to Destiny, would you have gone on the show if it were Jon Bon Jovi or someone else and Destiny couldn’t answer she criticized her and tattled to Bret about it and I bet if it were her she would have gone if it were anyone but Flavor Flav. LOL! I am very disappointed in Ambre and she should really be embarrassed about what she has done to the other girls and to Bret. I don’t think she is in love with him at all. And to lie about her age and act like she didn’t remember, BS Ambre. We all know how old we are. She is a job digging fake and at least with Daisy you know what you are getting exactly and she had real emotions not those fake “OH Yea!!!! when Bret would come down the hall and Ambre would see him. It was so high school and fake sounding when she tried to act like she was so excited to see him. That really bothered me. A 37 year old does not act like a 16 year old about her boyfriend. How yuk. And as far as class and refinement, no way. She went on a reality TV show OK! No class or refinement there kids. She wants to further her career and that’s it. I am sure she is thinking that Bret will introduce her to agents in Hollywood and things like that and that’s her story. She hasn’t made it in Chicago yet so she is trying this now and at 37 she’s a bit late. I don’t mean to rag so much on her but I just think that Daisy was sooo hurt and in love with Bret and Ambre is using him and it is all for nothing that he chose her and Daisy got so rejected and hurt over it and it didn’t have to happen. Ambre should have been out of there on the 1st night.
Amber does present herself as intelligent and grounded, however, in the final episode, she was condescending and superior to Daisy. Amber initiates the whole conflict when at dinner, after Daisly compliments her as “obviously beautiful, intelligent, etc.”, she opens up and asks Brett to elaborate on what he likes about Daisy beyond her sexuatlity. This is clearly being vulnerable and risky, and she prefaces the question with nothing but compliments for her opponent. In return, Amber seizes the moment to exploit Daisy’s obvious weaknesses (lack of education, youth, etc) and focuses on Daisy’s sexuality as her biggest strength. Clearly Daisy was asking Brett’s opinion, and further was looking for reassurances that she had more to offer. At this moment, Amber, was extremely unkind and and started animosity between them. Daisy in her immaturity later responding with defensiveness. But Amber, don’t act like Daisy didn’t have the right to be pissed and also had the civility to say “you hurt my feelings.”
