CUSACK’S CORNER

Ok, we admit that we have been a little quiet in reporting Cusack news…because, well there wasn’t anything to report, other than the usual gossip news consisting of a hotel’s oops and the dreaded return of an unwelcomed pest. But we’ll let the gossips to what they do best…gossip.

Here, we talk about THE WORK. Yep…it’s all about THE WORK. So on that note, honestly, what more can one say after Cusack’s march to Oscar didn’t even get on the same block as the golden statue, let alone the same neighborhood, which was a gross oversight to say the least.

But Cusack’s name was mentioned as a contender…a very slim contender, but nevertheless, a contender, and we here at Chicagoactor.com believe his best work is yet to come.

Cusack is once more on the promotional tour trail as he talks about his new movie “War, Inc.” scheduled to open in
limited release on May 23.

So far, Cusack has been on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and took part in a lively discussion with Bill Maher on his HBO cable program “Real Time.” Both interviews are circulating on YouTube. And you can visit www.billmaher.com to see when
the show with Cusack will be repeated.

To put it simply, “War, Inc.” is a very dark political satire on privatization of war. Cusack co-wrote the script and co-produced the film. It’s no secret how Cusack feels about the war in Iraq and the Bush administration. He is more than articulate and well read on the subject and he is a frequent contributing writer to the
Huffington Post.

The film’s script is said to be loosely based on award-winning journalist Naomi Klein’s brilliant piece “Baghdad Year Zero.” In fact, Cusack has even interviewed her for the Huffington Post. If you visit Naomi Klein’s website (www.naomiklein.org), she has a brief internet discussion with Cusack on disaster capitalism and also there is a special feature of Cusack talking about his film “War, Inc.” “War, Inc.” stars not only the Cusacks (sister Joan is also in the film) but Marisa Tomei, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley and Hillary Duff. Yes…we said Hillary Duff. And Duff, will blow your socks off in this film, she is surprisingly that good. It’s worth the price of admission just to see Hillary Duff and her pet scorpion.

“War, Inc.” is scheduled to have its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival (www.tribecafilmfestival.org) at the end of April.
Cusack is scheduled to start filming the war epic “Shanghai” for Harvey Weinstein’s Weinstein Co. this month in Thailand and the UK.
